Before making a decision, is it important to find out if the decision will be popular with others?

Many times, people are concerned that their decisions may not be popular with others. This is often the case when someone is seeking attention or being indecisive. People want attention or someone’s approval to feel good about their selves. However, this is not necessarily the best way of deciding. I say this because there are more important things than popular decisions. A person needs to be aware of these when he decides.

First, not all popular decisions are the right decisions. In many places, many people may think something is okay, but it doesn’t mean it is. For example, some countries discriminate against people. People who are being discriminated against cannot vote or cannot go to school or have any other rights. Even if people think it is okay, it is not. So popular decisions are not away right.

Another reason is that there are more important things in life than popularity. You don’t need to decide just because it is popular with others. For example, cool kids in your school smoke. The idea of smoking may be popular with other students, but it doesn’t mean you should smoke because smoking is bad for your health, and it is against the school rules. Therefore, even if a decision is popular with others, it doesn’t mean you should do it.

Last, if you choose to make popular decisions, then you are letting other people control you. If you let others control you, you will have to do things you normally wouldn’t do, which is an unhealthy way to live. For instance, you drink little because you know if you drink a lot, you will feel sick, but your friends tell you to drink more. Here, if you drank more, then you are letting your friends decide for you, and it is not good for you. When deciding, think about who does the decision help? Who does it hurt? How much will it cost? If it is you who is being harmed, then you should not do it. Therefore, think before you decide and don’t let people control you.

To conclude, a popular decision is not always the best decision. As shown in the essay, there are many other things to think about when deciding. A person should think about if he is making the right decision. He should also think about his moral stands and if he is hurting himself or others. Hence, you should not find out if the decision is popular with others.
